Pupil Council Meeting

 Thursday 6th March 2008-03-10

Present:          Owen (P3), Shayla (P5/6), Jordanne (P7), Ellie (P5), Lauren (P4), Jake (P4B), Casey (P3), Mrs. Nelson, Mrs. Stewart

Mrs Stewart opened the meeting and introduced herself to the Pupil Council

Representatives.

Mrs Stewart had two requests for the Pupil Council.

  1. Mr.  Constable would like the Representatives to ask all the children in their class for suggestions on different types of food/snacks that they would like to see being sold at the Healthy Tuck Shop.

  1. Behaviour in the school playground was generally good most of the time but  Mrs. Stewart would like suggestions on what to do with children who misbehaved or break rules in the playground at break and lunch times.  Suggestions would also be required for Playground Rules so a list could be created and displayed for everyone to see.

Personal belongings

There seems to be a misunderstanding on personal belongings being taken to school and the School Council wondered what the rules were.   Mrs. Stewart said that children could bring personal belongings to school with them and take them outside but it had to be understood that the school would not be responsible for any damage to these items or if they went missing.  The children would be responsible for their own property and would take the items to school at their own risk and with their parent’s permission.

Mobiles phones could be taken to school but they remain in schoolbags from 9.00 am to 3.15pm (not taken out into playground) and should be switched off between these times.

Vegetarian School Lunches

Problems with vegetarian lunches – in the last minutes Mrs. Watt said that any vegetarians can come and see her at any time with suggestions on how she can cater better for them.

Playground

A suggestion was made to put metal bars behind the goal post to stop the balls – the balls cannot really go very far so really this is not a problem.

Late for School

It was suggested that people who arrive late and have to come in at the front of the school should receive some punishment – Mrs Stewart said that sometimes it is not the childs fault they are late but if it was a continual occurrence then maybe someone could have a word with the late comer and remind them that 9.00 am was the start of the school day.

     2.

There was a request for Whiteboard pens – Mrs Stewart said she would attend to this.

Mrs. Stewart is to ask all teachers to set aside 10 minutes for Pupil Council Representatives to allow them to report back to the class on all matters arising at the meeting and to collect suggestions when required.
